When I woke the next morning it was to the sounds of commotion. The men in the room were bustling about as though it was their wedding day, not that Hollows were allowed wedding days, those were reserved for the Divine and celebrated far and wide with commemorative memorabilia and national celebration days. Hollows were merely allowed to live together, nothing more.
It was a cruel society that didn’t allow marriage between two people that truly love each other, but it could force one of them to bear another’s child. That thought brought me back to the present and thoughts of Izzy. I would do everything in my power to ensure she didn’t have to endure what the other Hollow women did. I could only hope that what I had done so far was enough.
“They’re announcing the winners in the area in ten minutes,” Ash said from next to me. His voice startled me and when I looked over I saw his eyes raking down my body, as though he could see beneath the bindings and bulky clothing to my lithe body, the one that was desperate for his touch, especially after everything with the Divine the day before. The memory of the final test hit me all over again and I had to stifle a moan as I could still feel the ghost of his metaphysical touch.

“You might want to get cleaned up. The baths are empty right now,” he said, adding the second half in a quieter voice.
I nodded my thanks to him and hurried away. Did he suspect something? Or maybe he had just noticed that I liked my privacy? Either way, I found myself blissfully alone in the baths and able to clean up before the ceremony. I exited just in time to see Fox enter. His eyes caught on me for a second before he shook his head and looked into the sleeping chamber.
“Line up, men. We’re going through to the Arena where you will be presented to the Divine and they will announce the winners. If you are not selected you will not cause a scene, or you will be faced with severe punishment. Remember, the games are going to be yearly from now on, so if you lose this time, there's always next year. The winners will be escorted off the field to an antechamber where they will be presented with the three women and they will choose which they would like. After that, you and your woman will be escorted to a suite with a bedchamber and bathing room to get to know each other." Fox's voice was sharp and full of a thinly veiled threat. My guess was that if we misbehaved then he would bear the anger of the Divine.
The six of us marched out and followed Fox into the arena. All the structures that I had
